Your Family Home Instead of a Group Home — and the Money to Pay for It
Creating a Meaningful Life for Adults with Disabilities Live Webinar and Q&A Thursday, October 29, 2026, 7 pm
Join us Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 7 pm for an updated, expanded webinar. Lisa Escoto, caregiving mom and owner of Family-Run Individual Group Homes of Virginia, will share practical guidance on:
A meaningful adult life is built by combining what is important for the person—consistent routines, needed supports, safety, communication, and skill-building—with what is important to the person—relationships, interests, choices, belonging, enjoyment, and purpose.
- Medicaid-funded day programs that can provide routine, social connection, skill-building, and support outside the home
- Private programs, classes, recreation, fitness, or interest-based activities that reflect the person’s strengths and preferences
- Community Engagement or Community Coaching, where Medicaid-funded support can help the person participate more fully in real community life—not just be present in the community
- Everyday life activities—errands, volunteering, hobbies, faith communities, friendships, household roles, and outings—that build confidence, dignity, and belonging
Lisa Escoto, Founder and President of Family-Run Individual Group Homes of Virginia, and Susan Keenan, Executive Director of Community Living Alternatives will share practical, realistic ways families can think beyond school and day programming to create days filled with purpose, connection, choice, and the right supports. This webinar is designed to give families ideas they can actually use.
- Choosing between Virginia's Sponsored Residential Program and group homes for your adult loved one with a disability
- Qualifying for and funding housing, activities, and caregiving support — including paying yourself or family members
- Getting answers to your questions during a live Q&A
